IHRC Geneva Justice

IHRC Geneva Justice Shield Initiative

The International Human Rights Commission Geneva (IHRC Geneva) has a mandate to promote and protect human rights worldwide. One critical area of concern is the prevalence of unlawful arrests, detentions, and convictions, which undermine the rule of law and fundamental human rights. Based on this backup idea, the IHRC Geneva (Africa Secretariat) established a project called the IHRC GENEVA JUSTICE SHIELD INITIATIVE that provides support and intervention for individuals who have been subjected to unlawful arrests, detentions, and convictions, ensuring their rights are protected and justice is served. The four steps for the project are
Case Identification and Intake: Establish a system for identifying and documenting cases of unlawful arrests, detentions, and convictions.

Legal Assistance: Provide legal aid and representation to affected individuals, ensuring they receive fair trials and justice.
Advocacy and Lobbying: Engage with governments, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to advocate for policy reforms and improved practices.
Victim Support: Offer counseling, rehabilitation, and reintegration support to individuals who have been wrongly arrested, detained, or convicted.
The IHRC Geneva Justice Shield Initiative aims to provide a critical safety net for individuals who have been subjected to unlawful arrests, detentions, and convictions. By establishing this project, the IHRC can make a meaningful difference in promoting justice, human rights, and the rule of law.
